What do the borders mean on cards?
Asked by Legendinc 14 years ago
Of course there are the unhinged & unglued cards, with the silver border, but I have a Naturalize with a white border and another Naturalize with a black border.
and some other multiples of cards with white borders but does that mean anything uber important?
or was it just how that specific set was printed, with all the cards in that set with white borders?

Long story short, that used to be a way of indicating core sets vs. expansion sets, and it also used to be kind of important legality-wise, but it's completely irrelevant now. Only difference is aesthetics.

i like having different copies of the same card in my decks.
like how i have different land art for each of my lands in a deck, if i have playset Lava Axe then all of them must be different sets, arts or borders

Gold bordered cards were from the World Championship Series sets, which showed off the top 8 decks of Worlds.
That stopped around 2000/2001 I think?
These decks basically showed off the cool decks in their entirety and where in proper sized packs, but the backs were slightly different, which made them illegal to play Magic in the tourney scene, and were scorned on in the casual room simply because they were 'different' and 'too powerful' all for a few quid.

That's setspecific. Naturalize 9th edition is white for example and Naturalize M11 is black.
