cmc of x = 0

x = unit of mana payed to get desired effect of x

xx = 2 each equal units of mana required. both must be same.

when a card with one or more variables in the casting cost is not on the stack, the x counts as a converted mana cost of 0, for the purposes of things such as Inquisition of Kozilek or Smother . When the spell is on the stack, whatever amount of mana was payed for x counts towards the converted mana cost - a Consume Spirit where x=10 has a converted mana cost of 12 for the purposes of, say, Spell Blast .

as above comment from user:-sporkife places it.

by default. X will always be considered as 0. Unless being used as a spell on a stack. Chimeric Mass is considered a cmc of 0 whilst in deck, hand or in play. (Trinket Mage is fun for fetching this.) But as a spell on the stack, x is whatever you pay for it at the time.

xx is important for gelantinous-genisis. Doubly so for reasons of Reverberate .

Hope this helps to clarify my answer :)

And also why my answer is infact true :P
