What formats do Archenemy and Planechase follow?

Asked by mistergreen527 13 years ago

Basically, I'm trying to find out if they use the same banned/restricted lists as Legacy or Vintage. Though, I know they are both casual formats, so maybe they don't have any banned cards. Except for maybe cards involving ante?

I don't think Archenemy or Planechase have an official format. You're right, it is a casual format, so my guess is the only banlist would be something like the "gentleman's" ban list they use in EDH/Commander. Which is basically summed up as "don't use cards/combos which are going to annoy everyone at the table". If there have been any official events with Archenemy or Planechase, look and see what kind of deck restrictions they put up for those.

i've checked some sites (including WotC's site) for a specific banned/restricted list but they dont have one.

as for format i believe it would be categorized as casual. though you could give them their own format.

seeing as these special cards are meant for casual play only (as of right now anyways) means that a ban/resticted list will vary greatly between playgroups but there will be some similarities of banning/restricting broken combo cards.

if you are going to put anything in the ban list i would suggest at least any card involving ante.

Generally, ante / physical manipulation (Chaos Orb ) cards are on the permaban list, and after that it's just a judgment call on whether you want to run 4 Sol Ring and 4 Tinker and stuff or not. Depends mostly on how much you like your opponents.
