What happens if I Reverberate Tooth and Nail after it's entwine cost has been paid? and Can I Shunt a Fireball that has multpile targets?

Asked by Jorgied 14 years ago

If I cast tooth and nail and pay the entwined cost then cast Reverberate when it copys the tooth and nail do I get the entwined cost as well???

and I have a question everyone tells me it doesnt work but if Shunt Change the target of target spell with a single target when some one fireballs two targets Can I redrect one of the targets?

You get everything the original spell had.

706.2. When copying an object, the copy acquires the copiable values of the original objects characteristics and, for an object on the stack, choices made when casting or activating it (mode, targets, the value of X, whether it was kicked, how it will affect multiple targets, and so on).

On your second question, no since the fireball was cast to target two targets shunt cannot legally target it to redirect.

You can however shunt a fireball that was only cast to have a single target.

Hope this helps =)

Wait so do I get the entwined cost? or do I have to pay another 2 to entwine the copyed spell?

Reverberate when it resolves will duplicate the spell exactly.

Therefore if you have paid the entwine cost of the original spell, you will get just that... a copy of the spell with the entwine cost already paid.

If you don't pay the entwine cost, you can't pay the extra to entwine. 2 reasons...

  1. Entwine is paid at the time you are casting the spell. therefore it will be too late to add to it.
  2. You can't pay additional to the cost of the spell that you are copying with Reverberate
hope this helps clarify things

Oh and regarding Shunt

Source: gatherer database.

15/07/2007 - If a spell targets multiple things, you can't target it with Shunt, even if all but one of those targets has become illegal.

The reason for this is that the target of the spell has to be a single target in order for Shunt to be able to work, otherwise shunt doesn't work.

The wording on the card specifically notes that the target spell with a single target is the type of spell you can target with shunt, therefore anything that hit's more than a single target can NOT be affected by shunt and the spell therefore can't be cast until such times as a single targeting spell is being placed on the stack.

Hope this helps clarify things.

Just for your information, on the second part, if you had instead played Redirect then you would be able to change both of the targets of the Fireball . I know this might not help because you might be running red and no blue, but just a suggestion.

The best spell to use Redirect on though is their Double Negative make it counter itself and something else they have on the stack! :P

@Jorgied,

I figured you would see that the rule mentions that "modes" were copied as well and recognize that entwine is modal. Sorry I didn't make that more clear, in hindsight I can see where it might not be.
