What happens if you imprint Clone on a Mimic Vat?
Asked by Jarrod_0067 13 years ago
Mimic Vat with Clone imprinted. What happens? Does it become a copy as it enters? Does it stay 0/0 and die? Does it lose the "exile at end of turn" effect? I'm confused :/
supernick is correct. The copy you create with Mimic Vat will be a Clone that gets exiled by Mimic Vat in the end phase. It is put into play, so it's "enter's the battlefield" ability triggers and, for a turn, you can have any creature on the battlefield.

im not entirely convinced yes the ability is from Mimic Vat however the way it's worded makes it seem like the token of the imprinted card gains the ability then it enters the battlefield as a copy of another creature. after the token enters the battlefield it's no longer a clone it's a another creature entirely and lost all previous abilities so it wouldn't have haste or be exiled at end of turn if this is the case. i think if it were to be exiled it would need the text "this effect does not cause it to lose other abilities" but because this is the case i think Clone should remain on the battlefield as a copy of another creature.
i have no proof to this statement this is mostly opionated hopefully someone else will have proof to answer the question.
this is unless the order of events cause the token to enter the battlefield, and then gain the ability, this would cause the copy to be exiled at end of turn im not sure myself again mostly opionated.

the other way i see it is the mimic vat says IT gains haste and exile IT at the begining of the next end step so would that mean that the creature has to remain a token based copy of the exiled card to gain the abilities or does when it change into a clone of another creature it still is given those abilities as it enters by the mimic vat because when the vat says it i see it refering to the created copy then the clone enters the field no longer as the created copy so it would then cause the rest of the ability to fizzle because the copy mimic vat made no longer exists.
two ways i think the ability could work IF it does still opionated, no proof. please help, bring proof.

Mimic vat's ability creates a delayed triggered ability that triggers on the end of turn. The token doesn't gain a triggered ability that causes you to exile it at the end of turn.
That verbage would look more like "...it gains haste and has 'At the end of turn, exile this creature.'"

If you have Clone imprinted on Mimic Vat , obviously you can copy any creature you want when you use the Vat to put a Clone into play. The question then is "What happens at the end of the turn?"
Well, Mimic Vat creates a token. It doesn't care what happens to this token, except at the end of the turn this token has to be exiled. It doesn't care if the token has been Arrest ed, it doesn't care if it changes creature types, or even if it becomes typeless (such as through Amoeboid Changeling or other effects.) All it says is that if that token still exists at the end of the turn, it gets exiled.
So in short, when Clone enters the battlefield it copies something else but at the end of the turn, the token that used to be Clone (and is now probably something else, like Wurmcoil Engine ) gets exiled by the Vat.
