what happens when a player loses a game in edh

Asked by ZionZaiyer 13 years ago

A small of group of friends and I were playing edh. I was running Slobad the Man...or Goblin. And of my friends son put arrest on my slobad. So I killed him. When he died I told him to take his arrest off my slobad, but my friend insisted that the arrest would stay. Is this true? When a player dies, anything he left on the battlefield on another player's board remains on the battlefield?

No, I do not think this is true. If a player dies all of his spells are exiled along with all the permanents. That is how I have always played anyway.

You are correct, his Arrest should have been removed.

800.4a. When a player leaves the game, all objects (see rule 109) owned by that player leave the game, all spells and abilities controlled by that player on the stack cease to exist, and any effects which give that player control of any objects or players end. Then, if there are any objects still controlled by that player, those objects are exiled. This is not a state-based action. It happens as soon as the player leaves the game. If the player who left the game had priority at the time he or she left, priority passes to the next player in turn order whos still in the game.
