what is Inviolability's effect in combat...?

a 2/2 first strike is in combat with a 2/2 who is enchanted with Inviolability . does the first strike creature die?
first I thought neither creature would die, because the first strike would deal enough damage to kill the other 2/2, who would end up preventing it.

The first striker will die. During the combat step, first strike damage happens first. In this case, the other creature will survive, due to Inviolability . Then, regular combat damage happens. Since the creature that is enchanted is still alive, it will deal its damage, killing the first striker.
