What is World Slayer's ruling?
Asked by Alzhander 14 years ago
I was wondering what would happen if I have multiple copies of Worldslayer on the field, and the ability of one of them triggers. What would happen? Would just the one that triggered not be destroyed, or would none of them be destroyed? Since the card doesn't say "destroy all permanents besides this card" nor does it say "destroy all permanents other than cards named Worldslayer", I'm not sure what would happen.
just the one that is triggered is left

It would wipe out all other copies since it specifies "all other permanents". Having "other than Worldslayer" is just referring to that particular card and not multiple copies (if they exist on the field).
You had the right idea, if it said something like "all other permanents except cards named Worldslayer" then yes, they would all stay on the field.

I would just be speculating, but if a creature was equipped with 2 Worldslayer s and it dealt combat damage to the player, the stack would look like this:
- Damage calculation. Effects are checked as a state based action.
- Both Worldslayer 's effects go off. You have priority so you choose the order on the stack. For this situation, we shall have W(1) and W(2) signifying Worldslayer #1 and #2
- Lets say W(2) goes on the stack first, followed by W(1).
- If no spells or abilities are activated, W(1) resolves first.
- W(1) kills everything except itself.
- Now, this is where I am also unsure, (Remember, this is only a assumption, so it may be wrong) but I believe the ability of W(2) is still on the stack.
- W(2) resolves, killing everything except itself, but since it is no longer on the battlefield, it stays in the new zone it has moved to.
- There is absolutely NOTHING on the field (except indestructible permanents).

But if only 1 Worldslayer is equipped, everything else is destroyed except the Worldslayer that triggers, as it was previously stated

I often wondered about that happening so even though it wasn't the question, I thought I should post it anyway. Moral of the story is: just don't do it and you will be fine

All copies of Worldslayer would stay in play. It is much the same as an Admonition Angel on my side of the field can not target an Admonition Angel on my opponent's side of the board.
