What would happen if you enchant your creature with Treacherous Link and Pariah?
Asked by k0o808 14 years ago
Would it be one of those instances where you could choose which happens or would it just be an infinite loop? A "just curious" question.
Thanks for the input cnielsen05.
Haha yeah squire1 . I thought I might be able to use it in a Pestilence deck but it looks like it may not work.
Would love more feedback on the ruling.

Correct me if I'm wrong but if you play both on a creature controlled by your opponent, the combo would redirect all damage that was dealt to you to your opponent: Pariah redirects your damage to the creature and Treacherous Link then redirects it to your opponent.

I could be wrong so if I am I hope someone will correct me, but my understanding is that because both Pariah and Treacherous Link apply replacement effects, each can only be applied once to a given instance of damage being dealt.
With both enchanted on a creature, damage to that creature will be redirected to the player once via Treacherous Link , then Pariah will redirect it once again to the creature. At this point, Treacherous Link has already had its replacement effect applied to the damage once, so the damage remains assigned to the creature.
In the opposite case where damage is dealt to the player, first Pariah applies and redirects the damage to the creature, then Treacherous Link sends it back to the player, at which point Pariah will not apply to the same damage a second time.
In short, they will nullify one another.
