Demonic Appetite Livewire Lash

When an aura is cast, a target is selected for it. If the Demonic Appetite targets the creature that is equipped with the Livewire Lash , the triggered ability will trigger.

I honestly don't think that would work. Demonic Appetite reads as "Enchant creature you control", and therefore does not specify it has to target anything, unlike Giant Growth , which says "Target creature gets +3/+3", or even Doom Blade which reads "Destroy target nonblack creature".

Therefore, IMO, Auras of any kind do not trigger Livewire Lash

NoSkillManiac, the flaw you have in that is that you cannot enchant a creature with shroud therefor proving that aura's must target.

@Zylo-- But would the targeting not come as an ability from the casting of an enchantment, therefore being a triggered ability when the enchantment enters the battlefield?

And I disprove myself: or atleast the comp. rules do.

114.1b Aura spells are always targeted. These are the only permanent spells with targets. An Auras target is specified by its enchant keyword ability (see rule 702.5, Enchant). The target(s) are chosen as the spell is cast; see rule 601.2c. An Aura permanent doesnt target anything; only the spell is targeted. (An activated or triggered ability of an Aura permanent can also be targeted.)

So the comp. rules say you can.

Oblivion Ring (everyone's favourite since Alara, but mine have Lorwyn art :D ) is an example of an enchantment that's not an aura that has a triggered ability. Auras target on the stack (though there are ways to get them on things without targeting - if it is simply put into play without being cast, it doesn't target).

Since enchants target while still on the stack, they are classed as spells for the purposes of livewire lash.

The reason that some enchants get round this, (e.g Oblivion Ring or Journey to Nowhere hitting Emrakul, the Aeons Torn ) is because they have etb triggers targeting creatures once they are already permanents, rather than when they are on the stack as spells.

haha perfect timing.

It's so much better, innit? I have moderate amounts of older cards, so I tend to run older stuff if I can - the mana myr are nice to see in Standard because I have Mirrodin prints of most of them.

Idk, I started playing in Zendikar, just before the WW prerelease... so about a year ago. I just picked up the old stuff because i bought legacy/extended precon decks when i was starting.

Anyways, i think the question was answered...

The relevant rule is:

303.4a An Aura spell requires a target, which is restricted by its enchant ability.

Not that it is the "spell" which requires a target. Thus the Aura spell does target the creature it enchants and that is precisely what is required to trigger Livewire Lash .
