Will my creature lose Savage Silhouette after it regenerates?

Asked by Legendinc 14 years ago

Will my creature lose the enchantment aura Savage Silhouette if the creature is hit with lethal damage and i choose to pay the mana cost to regenerate it?

Or will it not since technically the creature did not leave the battle field, and the enchantment is still on it?

It will keep the enchantment after regenerating because it never changed zones.

As long as you have the manna, all is good.

Regeneration is a replacement effect that replaces lethal damage or a 'destroy' effect. If the permanent that would take lethal damage or be destroyed has a regeneration shield, instead it is tapped, removed from combat if it is in combat, and all damage is removed from it. It never changes zones. Clauses like that on Wrath of God can prevent regeneration, and if the creature is exiled (Swords to Plowshares ) or has a toughness of 0 or less (Last Gasp ) it dies anyway.

Also, regen only works once per time it would be destroyed - so if they cast a burn spell that would kill your creature, you pay 1G to regenerate it, it lives. Then if they cast a second burn spell at the creature, you'll have to pay another 1G in order to keep it alive.

One other note, regeneration lasts the entire turn until it's used. It doesn't have to be activated as a response to destruction, though it's often smartest to do so (so you're not committing extra resources).

So if for some reason you want or need to, you can activate the regen ability at any time in a given turn. Until the end of that turn the replacement effect will save a creature from the first time it would be destroyed, even if it happens far later in the turn.
