Reskinning WH40K...
#2
Tsukimi I love 40k, well, at least I love the lore. At first I was very conflicted with the pre-cons and started adding some of the cards from it to my decks. Some of the art really could fit in with MtG, but that never really felt right to me. Last year I decided that I was going to change the way I engage with Magic. I first started playing in the 90's, took a few breaks over time, but since Avacyn Returns I've been consistently into Magic, buying lots of singles and a fair amount of sealed product (mostly because I want to support my LGS). But with universes beyond and the design changes that make regular sets feel less like the Magic I know and love I've decided that I'm only going to engage with sets that fit within that aesthetic. So for this upcoming year that means the only non-masters set I'm going to touch is Tarkir Dragonstorm. I'm in the process of pulling the handful of 40k and LotR cards from my decks. I have all four 40k commander decks that I'm keeping as a battle box (they are really well designed and play great against each other), but my intention is to just play them against each other. Wizards is in the process of losing me as a paying customer.

I'm with you on the UB stuff. As for MtG things that fit the squad mechanic, may I suggest the Boros Legion as maybe the best option, though that doesn't help with the blue cards (Azorius might make sense too). I like the idea of Kithkin as well flavor-wise. Knights and goblins (from almost any MtG plane) also might be good fits for squads.

Table Talk and …...

I appreciate the thoughts. I think next time I'll make sure there is no table talk. I hope I'm able to pull that off again some time.

Table Talk and …...

So this last weekend in a commander game I managed to live the dream and cast Prisoner's Dilemma and copy it... then I flashed it back and copied that a few turns later. I didn't win that game, but it was a blast to do it.
When I cast the spell the group wanted to talk about it first before the secret vote. The table talk was pretty entertaining. In the first vote two people voted 'snitch' and one voted 'silence'. In all the three subsequent votes everyone voted 'silence' (though one player had been eliminated by the last two instances). So for context, this was at a kitchen table with a small group, not at an LGS or a tournament so we all knew each other.
After watching this play out I kind of think that I should have insisted on no table talk. I feel like if there wasn't the talk it would have been more likely that there were 'snitch' votes.
So looking for thoughts on if table talk should be allowed for Prisoner's Dilemma or similar cards?

When it came out I was less into metal and more into hardcore punk so I didn't pay a huge amount of attention to that album but I did think Disturbed were among the better crop of alternative metal bands that came through back then. I preferred System of a Down at the time, but listening to them now I think I prefer Disturbed.
