I am contemplating putting Leyline Prowler into several of my EDH decks that contain the colors black and green, replacing a mana rock, since I believe that it would be very beneficial for those decks, but I would like to ask for advice, before I do that, so I am starting this thread, for that reason.

What does everyone else say, about this? How good is Leyline Prowler?

Crow_Umbra, that makes sense, to me, so that is a very good explanation.

I have replaced Decanter of Endless Water and Thought Vessel with Bloom Tender and Faeburrow Elder, because the creatures are better suited for this deck; while those creatures may not possess abilities that trigger when they enter the battlefield, this deck contains numerous other cards that synergize with creatures, such as Aura Shards, Eladamri, Korvecdal, or Chulane, himself, so I am very pleased with this decision.

Magic: the Gathering has been slowly delving into genres outside of traditional medieval fantasy for many years, now, but Edge of Eternities is full science fiction/space fantasy, and I feel that it is too far removed from traditional fantasy for this game, so why does WotC not simply make Space: the Convergence a real product, at this point? I know that S:tC was originally intended as a joke, but there have been numerous times in the past when something that WotC originally intended as a joke became real, so I do not see why Space: the Convergence cannot become real, as well.

What does everyone else say, about this? Why does WotC not simply make Space: the Convergence a real product, now, instead of blending genres with Edge of Eternity?

Poly_raptor, given that this deck shall have a strong focus on creatures, I would like for it to have at least one card that searches my library for one or more creatures.

Also, what about Kami of Whispered Hopes, Circle of Dreams Druid, or Sylvan Library? Each of those cards works with one of the planned themes of this deck, so I am certainly considering them, for it.

I have replaced Recoil and Voidslime with Overcharged Amalgam and Psychic Drain, since I believe that the newer cards better fit the theme of this deck.

DarkKiridon, that is a nice card, but it is somewhat conditional, so I am not certain if I would use it.

Poly_raptor, the combo of Heliod, Sun-Crowned and Spike Feeder is too cliche, so I would prefer to avoid it, but Attended Healer is amazing, so I thank you, for suggesting it!

What about Chord of Calling, Shared Summons, or Enduring Vitality? Would any of those cards be good for the type of deck that I am seeking to build?

wallisface, again, that makes perfect sense, and I actually completely forgot that that gearhulk grants the creature that it reanimates several abilities, so I no longer regard it as being too restrictive.

wallisface, now, I understand, but is that not rather unnecessarily strict for WotC to do that, consider the strict casting cost that the gearhulk has, and that it can reanimate creatures only with mana value 4 or less? Repeatedly sacrificing and reanimating a creature is a tried-and-true strategy in this game, so I see no reason to restrict it.

I am planning to build a green/white EDH deck, with Sigarda, Host of Herons as the general, so I would like to ask for advice on constructing it.

Most decks that have the original Sigarda as the general tend to be either "Voltron" decks (i.e., making the general as powerful as possible) or "enchantress" decks (i.e., focusing on enchantments), so I would like to make my deck slightly different from the typical Sigarda deck; specifically, I plan for the deck to have three major themes: a focus on gaining life, but not quite to the extent of my Liesa, Shroud of Dusk deck; a focus on generating creature tokens, but not to the extent of my Ghired, Conclave Exilefoil deck; and a focus on putting +1/+1 counters on creatures, but not to the extent of my Atraxa, Praetors' Voice deck; in other words, it shall be a "jack of all trades" deck, but with plenty of synergy and overlap between those themes. Sigarda does not directly contribute to any of those themes, but I chose her as the general, because she is very difficult to remove, once she is on the battlefield, and I feel that this type of creative and unusual deckbuilding is good and should be encouraged.

First, for gaining life, I am considering cards that make it easy to do so, such as True Conviction, Dazzling Angel, Archangel of Thune, Trostani, Selesnya's Voice, Sunscorch Regent, Oracle of Nectars, and Lathiel, the Bounteous Dawn, as well as cards that offer payoffs/rewards for gaining life, such as (again) Archangel of Thune, Lathiel, Trelesarra, moon dancer, Blossoming Bogbeast or Trudge Garden.

Second, for generating creature tokens, I am considering Vernal Sovereign, Aura Mutation, Trudge Garden (again), Selesnya Guildmage (possibly), or Scepter of Celebration, and, for cards that reward me for generating tokens, I am considering Juniper Order Ranger, Cathars' Crusade, Dazzling Angel, and Trostani, Selesnya's Voice.

Third, for placing +1/+1 counters on creatures, I am considering Shalai, Voice of Plenty, Archangel of Thune, Juniper Order Ranger, Cathars' Crusade, Sunscorch Regent, Forgotten Ancient (possibly), and (possibly) Vigor, and, for cards that allow me to use those counters as payment for other effects, I am considering Fertilid, Mindless Automaton, (possibly) Ooze Flux.

Notice how many of those cards have synergy and overlap, allowing me to pursue three themes in a single deck, and I also plan to have a number of generically good cards that I use in many of my decks, such as True Conviction, Mirari's Wake, Seedborn Muse, or Sigarda, Font of Blessings, as well as several cards that I have not used in any of my previous decks, thus far, such as Hydra Broodmaster, Pledge of Loyalty, Camaraderie, Commander's Plate, Behemoth Sledge, Shield of the Oversoul, or Veteran Beastrider. I also am considering putting either Valkyrie Harbinger or Kalonian Hydra into this deck, but I do not wish for this deck to be too similar to any of my other decks, so I would prefer to avoid putting those cards into this deck, if I can avoid doing so, and I also am not yet certain about Doubling Season, staff of completion, or Selvala, Explorer Returned, since those cards would be awesome in this deck, but I do not wish to use them in every deck in which they would be a good addition.

What does everyone else say about this? Do you think that this is an interesting idea, and what suggestions can you make, for me? Thank you, very much, and I certainly am awaiting everyone’s responses!

I have replaced Fiendish Duo with Twinflame Tyrant, which reduced the average converted mana cost of this deck from 3.55 to 3.53, because the duo is better for encouraging my opponents to attack each other, but, with Nekusar as the general of this deck, it is very likely that my opponents shall congregate in attacking me, so the dragon is better than is the devil, in this particular situation.

wallisface, I am not certain if I fully comprehend your first point; would not the creature still be exiled by the clause, even if it did not have a finality counter on it?

February 17, 2025 9:14 p.m.

I like Mausoleum Secrets, as that card is different from most "tutors" in that it requires a player to be slightly more strategic than do similar cards, but I still find that card to be somewhat narrow, so I have made a creature who has an ability that is very similar to that of this card, as seen, below:

Jarad, Sovereign of the Swarm Show

As great as Mausoleum Secrets is, I do have several reasons for which I am making a slightly better version of it: it can find cards of only a single color, it does not put any cards into its caster's graveyard, and it counts only creature cards, so this new version of Jarad addresses all of those issues.

What does everyone else say, about this card? How well did I do, with it?

February 17, 2025 9:04 p.m.

Azdranax, I fully agree that I would prefer that Mana Crypt and Jeweled Lotus remain banned in EDH, since the rules committee banned them for a reason, although I still am hoping for Prophet of Kruphix to be unbanned, at some point, since I feel that the format has evolved sufficiently for the prophet to no longer be a major issue in it.

I have noticed that two cards in Aetherdrift have redundant working: first, Coalstoke Gearhulk reanimates a creature with a finality counter, but also has the "exile at the beginning of the next end step" clause, which I thought that WotC was phasing out in favor of finality counters. Second, Aetherjacket sacrifices itself to activate its ability, but specifies "another target artifact" in its ability, which is not necessary, because it would not be on the battlefield to target itself, since sacrificing it is a requirement for activating the ability. Therefore, I find it to be very unusual that those two cards have such redundant wording.

What does everyone else say, about this? Why do several cards in Aetherdrift have redundant wording? I would be very interested to hear your thoughts, on this matter.

I do find this system to be useful, but I hope that the brackets are more akin to guidelines than they are to strict rules, since I do not like feeling constrained when I construct my decks or play with them, and I can confidently say that none of my decks shall fit into brackets 4 or 5, but, other than that, I am not certain into which brackets they would fit.

Tsukimi, gods on Theros are born from the faith of mortals, so has WotC made any attempts to distinguish the gods of Amonkhet from the Theran deities?

Said on Toy Story: the …...

#20

This year is the 30th anniversary of Toy Story, the first feature film by Pixar Studios, and also the first feature-length film to be composed entirely of computer-generated imagery (CGI). Several films that had been made prior to that used CGI, but only in addition to either live-action (as seen in Tron or the Last Starfighter) or traditional animation (as seen in the Black Cauldron or the Great Mouse Detective), but the idea of a film being made entirely from CGI was a new and radical idea, at that time, as it had never been done, before. Today's audiences likely are accustomed to films being composed entirely of CGI, but Toy Story was groundbreaking, for its time, helping to inspire a new generation of movies and also, rather unfortunately, leading to a severe decline in the usage of traditional animation in moviemaking.

Thankfully, the makers of the film understood that technological advances alone would not make a masterpiece, so they put forth great effort in writing a compelling story that deals with jealousy, existential crises, and questioning one's identity and place in the world, and also produced some of the most memorable characters in motion picture history, most notably Woody and Buzz Lightyear, a dynamic duo rivaling Batman and Robin in terms of popularity. The movie's premise, that toys are sentient and self-aware beings, likely led to many children hoping to catch their own toys being alive and also feeling guilty about abandoning them, and I imagine that Buzz Lightyear's identity crisis likely strikes viewers much more harshly as adults than it did when they were children. Toy Story was also a departure from Disney's usual stories in that it did not have a main villain who drove the conflict of the plot; Sid was certainly an antagonist from the perspective of the heroes, but he was present for only a small percentage of the film's story, as the majority of the conflict was between the two lead protagonists, one of whom was jealous of the other, which was an unusual idea, at the time, but lead to many Disney movies forsaking the idea of a traditional antagonist/villain, as the writers began exploring different ideas for stories.

I can hardly believe that this movie is now three decades old, as I remember watching it, when I was younger, and being amazed at both the amazing new graphics and the well-written plot, so I can certainly understand how it began a new era in western animation, showing the potential of computer-generated animation as a serious tool for filmmaking; I am slightly sad that the usage of traditional animation seems to have declined, as most studios now use CGI animation very heavily, although I expect that the ubiquity of CGI in recent years has led to some people deliberately returning to traditional animation as an act of protest against CGI. As a side note, I shall say that I believe that Toy Story 3 was the perfect conclusion to the story, and that Toy Story 4 should not have been made, and I am further displeased about Pixar apparently making a Toy Story 5, as well.

What does everyone else say, about this? How do you feel about this year being the 30th anniversary of Toy Story?
