I'm a chick who loves to play Magic. I am just emerging from kitchen-table Magic to serious Magic. Try as I might, I can never make a 60 card deck without help. I can't choose enough cards to get rid of, even though I know it works better at 60. That's why I love this site. I let other people help me make the decisions easier, get new ideas, and find out what's not working.
I'm kinda weird when it comes to how I put my deck together, but I like weird. It has to have a theme, the cards need to complement each other aesthetically, and it has to be cohesive in both the spells and artwork. In other words, I would never make a deck with Fling because I hate the way the card looks. I know that sounds superficial, but I just really love to play a deck I find aesthetically pleasing. It's like an extra challenge to make it all work. Trying out Tezzeret's Gambit in my B/R Vampire deck was painful because it seemed out of place.
Because I can never make up my mind about cards (I can easily pick out 100 I want to play in one deck!), I'm going to attempt to make an EDH deck. I think it will be fun!
I enjoy playing Magic as a family and hosting our own booster drafts with friends and having mini-tournaments. My 8-year old son beat a 24 year old 2-0 by playing Blood Artist with Predator's Gambit and Homicidal Seclusion ( which he figured out all on his own!), making the vampire a 5/2 with lifelink and intimidate (opponent was playing U/W). He killed him in turn 6 and doubled his life points. Maybe it's a mom thing, but I was super impressed. Magic has really increased his math and reading skills, and he was already advanced. They'd never allow it in schools, alas. He's going to a week-long Magic camp in July, and he can't wait. He will bring home over 1000 cards. He's ecstatic!
I'm pretty new on here and just figuring stuff out. I learn how to do something new each day, and I've gotten really helpful advice. Everyone has been very friendly, too. :). Thanks!
