Welcome Planeswalker!
Hello, and welcome! Come, come! Hang your cloak and rest your boots. Stay, and tell tale of your last adventure Planeswalker, of your first win, last loss, of the friends and decks you made along the way.
I'm fairly bad at this, introductions. I started playing MTG when Mirrodin was released. "Little Bashers" was my first preconstructed deck and forever influenced what it was that made MTG so appealing. The lore. The art. The idea of a resource-based card game.
That last bit came later, much later, I was maybe six when my uncle from way back when bought me this preconstructed deck and taught me how to play. Back when us the players were Planeswalkers; who visited these planes and constructed a library of spells, monsters, and lands from which we traveled. Visited. Cards that represented who you were, what you liked.
At least, this aspect of the game is what I enjoyed, and do rather still find myself rather fond of. That reason and meaning to play, being yourself in every setting, gamemode, the cards you play representing more than a desired outcome. You'll find more often than not that I try my best to build for flavor. Using only cards that would be seen as lore-friendly, whether in flavor text, art, mechanic, or set. Sometimes this gets difficult, especially when they print cards from a plane (say, Ixalan) for example, but they appear only in Core Sets, Supplementary content, or preconstructed formats. Finding these cards, like Atla Palani, Nest Tender becomes the biggest struggle when making decks this way.
I took a break from 2013-2017 namely because of school having become the largest part of my life, go figure, and I missed out on a ton up to that point, but when I came back to it all. Ixalan and its wonderful "big mamas" (an endearing term I provider every aptly depicted dinosaur Zacama, Primal Calamity for example.) alongside their tasteful tribe selection and depictions. I miss this era of MTG quite a lot; but those are opinions best left in the deckbox so to speak. I love this game and can't let biased sour or drag down just what I enjoy about it all.
My recent joy has been creating decks in homage to my old group. I've recently moved to a new city, a new state; and miss my friends dearly. So I've taken the time into making a commander deck specializing in paying tribute to the commander I best knew them for.
Some additional tidbits here.
Fav Color? White.
Fav Guild? Orzhov.
Fav Shard? It's hard to pick! The real answer is Naya, but Jund commanders are so fun!
Fav Clan? Abzan. Though I wish we had more variety and flavor for these commanders. It feels like they all do the same thing, I know this isn't true, but without a solid tribe, it always just feels like a new way to throw creatures into your own graveyard; and honestly I'm here for this. I look forwards to maybe having lore friendly Phyrexian partners that may be able to contribute to this dream. Something like Ich-Tekik, Salvage Splicer which already does what all Abzan commanders do. That's a gross over simplification, but I mean. He makes a token, distributes counters, and triggers off of death. Beautiful lore and flavor here too.
Fav Tribe? Dinosaurs. Though Phyrexian Dinosaur would be a properly metal combo.
Fav Plane? Always subject to change, there are no wrong answers. That being said... Mirrodin has a soft spot in my heart. Next to Dominaria, Ixalan, Innistrad... all the lore makes it difficult just to pick one.
It appears I've talked your ear off and then some, Planeswalker. Leave whenever you're ready to. I appreciate your time and company.
May you never need to Mulligan and all your coin flips be favorable. I wish you luck out there in the maelstrom.
