Ah, yes. Quite the blissful times, when all fall in my wake, at last lout afore true majesty!

As one of nobility (in my head, leastwise), I seek the grandest of pursuits. In my collection shall be a Commander deck of each non-four colour combination. To this end, my journey draws to a nearing conclusion. A peregrination may only bid so long.

Have some lists:

Three-Colour Decks

The Lands Restored | For the lands and their walkers rules Hazezon Tamar. The sand stirs by the governor's steps, bid by ways of the old.

The Gyves of Mendacities | For the deceit of the world walks Halfdane. Knowing that no path is binding, knowing that no way cannot be claimed, he exists in pertinancy.

The Warriors Follow | For the souls undying leads Adun Oakenshield. He rises with all others, upsurging the wynd to victory.

Tresserhorn’s Awesome Squad of Cool People | For the hearts that could not rule reigns Lord of Tresserhorn. They follow a path that he once led, bringing their path with the fallen.

The Bird and His Baubles | For the inklings of life's way roosts Falco Spara, Pactweaverfoil. He soars as neither a saviour nor scourge, knowing a beautiful path needn't be a glorious one.

Twinkle, My Starfall Wish | For the fates that never lapse looms Illuna, Apex of Wishes. She cradles stars for those whom the world has bound, granting a wish for a life without.

Tales of Conviction and Valor | For the valor evermore howls Syr Gwyn, Hero of Ashvale. Her glinting blade is tempered by conviction and asperity, each cry honour-woven.

Beseeming Perfection | For the souls that commune hests Tymnafoil and Sidar Kondofoil. They lead all who believe that life goes on as it shall, no matter the folly which comes.

The Hiemal Beyond | For the cold that never ceases meanders Jorn, God of Winter  Flip. Nival bounds wreak the eternity of the frore, bringing naught but the silent and old.

The Quiet Never Came | For the lightning which never quiets roars Vadrok, Apex of Thunder. Silent is earnt at storm's end, yet the tempest never rests.

Two-Colour Decks

Flourishing Benignity | For the bounteous tillage reigns Karametra, God of Harvests. She is regnant over ways immemorial, blowth by her touch and grace by her hand.

Oh Jackdaw Sing Arrogance | For the crows seeking carrion devises Colonel Autumnfoil, for his cold orders echo as shadows over war's quiet.

Consigned to the Graves | For atrophied life from under emerges Gisa and Geralf. They reanimate the rotten, mouldering through masterless gyves.

Fictitious Grandeur | For the bliss of a day long-lived flies Kaza, Roil Chaserfoil. She twists the arcane and bestrews disaster upon all, mingling with wizards whilst she does.

Lurid Revival | For the glory of mornings lost rampages Bladewing the Risenfoil. Centuries lost under barrow, rising for a day that shall never come.

The Big Dog | For the rubs and snuggles lurks Polukranos, Unchained. WHO'S A GOOD DOGS? YOU'RE A GOOD DOGS. Pets furiously.

Being Gay in the Woods | For none others but themselves roam Halana and Alena, Partners. An arrow pierces prey, a blade rends life, but, between them, all is reformed.

The Life of Brion | For the reconnecting with his son remains Brion Stoutarmfoil. He is often seen playing catch with tother soldiers. This commonly results in instant death.

Gather, Friends, in Song and Bounty! | For the feasts and the journeys wanders Volo, Itinerant Scholar, amongst Noble Heritage. With glee, he scribes of curious oddies gilding the land, whereover the quill shan't lie.

The River Anew | For the rithe that always flows swims Kumena, Tyrant of Orazca. The rocks at river's bottom are caught by the tide evermore.

Single-Colour Decks

There's Rattling at Life's Cage | For the purity that death offers tethers Yomiji, Who Bars the Way. Life may shackle but death breaks the chains. The spirit decides which is worse.

The Endless Tapestry | For the orphrey that kythes the erstwhile wards Hakim, Loreweaver. Both mind and dreams are woven into the ages, never extricated and never lost.

Let the Nightmare Go On.. | For the dreams that taint and benight prowls Chainer, Dementia Masterfoil. His stride snares to darkness and his chains unroot the sleeper, finding much beneath harsh veils.

Kick You Whilst I Dance | For the revelry that descends past dusk cavorts Diaochan, Artful Beauty. All must join the dance, their wiles quelled by wiles.

Roots As Blood-Veins Bleed Sickly Sorrow | For witherless roots embosks Kodama of the Center Tree. Spirits shift to greater ways, verdant paths left where they once stepped, cherishing where they still can.

The Five-Colour Monstrosity

The Season of Mechanical Harvest | For the silhouettes amid the dawn creeps Reaper Kingfoil. Watchers of the tilth, toilers of the glade, ruiners of the mindful.

In Conclusion

With twenty-five decks in counting looms two more to be made. Only Bant remains, but it shall be vanquished in cardboard splendour. Enjoy my page and have a good day.

When I was initially introduced into the game of Magic, I was taught to evaluate cards based on how much mana they demanded before they did their thing. Air Elemental costs five mana, Brimaz costs three, and Tower of Fortunes costs twelve.

Tower of Fortunes is an undoubtedly terrible card, but it isn't twelve mana; it's eight and then four. Burnished Hart is readily dismissed as "six mana ramp" despite its desired effect being split across its cast and activation.

I have been re-evaluating how I perceive cards with split costs, as the typical intuition of adding it all together hasn't exactly felt accurate. This intuition neglects the fact that cards often take their time over the course of the game. It has moreover led to many cards being naturally excluded from any consideration in the first place. As for a card I (and many others) have come around on, I initially dismissed Wayfarer's Bauble as three-mana ramp and never bothered to try it. I now consider it s staple in non-green commander lists.

Personally, I don't think the additive measure of cost is fluid enough for the game of Magic. There is too much going on for it to be quantified by a single number. I've been using cumulative mana across turns to consider costs in a way that feels more fluid. (Turn one provides one mana, turn two brings that to three mana, turn three brings it to six mana, etc...) This feels better but still imperfect.

How do you evaluate split costs? Do you think that the additive system is good enough as it or do we need something more fluid to more accurately measure a card's power? What do you think?
