Hi, welcome on this page filled with a plethora of MTG EDH/Commander deck ideas. Hopefully, they'll be entertaining and/or useful to you. Over the past eight years, the content of this page has evolved quite a bit, right along with all the evolutionary changes of the format itself. Some of the decks posted here have changed substantially during their life, in composition and in some cases strategic focus. There's even a few who had their commanders changed.

My friends and I have played this format ever since it started to rear its head in our community, and we've filled an uncountable number of hours by now playing it. None of us ever played it competetively, just for fun. All the ideas on this page have been used at some point during our Friday-night MTG sessions. I'm still well into the process of posting the complete set of ideas including primers, which hopefully will be done somewhere in 2025. Thanks for visiting.

Regards,

NV_1980

Hi fellow Yargle and Multani wielder! You've given me a few ideas on what I would change about my take on this deck. Hopefully you won't mind if I return the favor :)

Most notably, you have very little in here to prevent token decks from swamping you with too many creatures to block. I've solved this by adding stuff like Crawlspace, Jaheira's Respite, No Mercy and Silent Arbiter. There's more ways you can add to make Yargle/Multani very hard to stop as well. Prowler's Helm and Whispersilk Cloak for instance.

Anyways, looks good otherwise! Have fun with the deck.

There's two Paths of Ancestry in here, making the deck EDH-illegal.

With a focus on spell-slinging, perhaps Neheb, the Eternal, Solphim, Mayhem Dominus, Torbran, Thane of Red Fell or Urabrask  Flip would be better suited. Happy commander-hunting!

Hi m8. If your strategy involves "Flood the board and have it all wreak havoc", would it make sense to include Grenzo, Havoc Raiser? Aside from literally abiding to your quote, he really is a force to be reckoned with if you can manage to damage your opposition. He either creates confusion in the opposing ranks (through goad) OR he grants you with some more casting options. Also wondering what your thoughts on Disrupt Decorum are, because it seems so attuned to Kardur's modus operandi.

Hi, I love this build; it's obviously something you've been working on for quite a while, considering what you're telling about the deck's origin. Rakdos has long been my favorite Rakdos (pun intended) commander, and some of the cards I've been using (lately) that I didn't find in your build would be examples like:

  1. Bloodletter of Aclazotz: I know that it's rather expensive, but I can tell from experiencing his impact on the battlefield that he's worth it. He's basically a bad-ass combatant with a stronger version of Wound Reflection incorporated in him.
  2. Descent into Avernus: great value; especially with Rakdos on the battlefield.
  3. Neheb, the Eternal: if ANY creature would want to party with the lord of pain, I think it would be this guy. He basically feeds off of the pain that Rakdos requires to show his true potential, and that energy can be put to good use. :)
  4. Vial Smasher the Fierce: his ability is just about the embodiment of chaos, so sounds very well suited to party with Rakdos.

Keep up the good work and enjoy this build! Ow, and here's mine in case you're interesed: The Portal of Pain.

Hi Ruby_Rule! It's been some time since I've seen a good post for an Ezuri deck. This brew looks really nice and well-balanced. Have you considered putting in some more token generators to boost Ezuri's capabilities at producing experience counters? Specifically, I would recommend Arachnogenesis, Awakening Zone, Chasm Skulker, Fable of Wolf and Owl and Mycoloth for that. Especially that last one has wicked synergy with Ezuri.

A really useful card could be Spike Weaver. An attack doesn't go your way, simply remove a counter from it to essentially cast Fog. Deepglow Skate and Kalonian Hydra can easily double +1/+1 counters on whatever you have going on the battlefield. Also, Gyre Sage could be an exceptionally powerful mana dork with Ezuri as your commander. Last but not least, I'd consider Panharmonicon, to double Ezuri's (and many other of your creature's) effectiveness when they (or other creatures) enter the battlefield.

Have fun with your brew!

It's good to see a resurgence of this strat, and this deck plays into it nicely! Some ideas:

  1. Ikra Shidiqi, the Usurper *f-etch*: a bit like lifelink on combat damage for all your creatures based on toughness; pretty darn powerful in this deck.
  2. Oketra the True: with an ability to damage based on toughness, this god suddenly becomes quite the behemoth.
  3. Sidar Kondo of Jamuraa: makes it more difficult to stop many of your attackers during combat.
  4. Silklash Spider: a potent combatant when she's allowed to deal damage through toughness, as well as having a built-in, slightly less powerful, reusable Hurricane.
  5. Skinshifter: great for being multi-functional and can become a 0/8 monstrosity in a flash.

Good luck with this brew!

Hi Ovniid, this deck looks interesting. Have you already played it? I'm curious how it performs. As to ideas for it, I would say The Wanderer could be very interesting, to keep your planeswalkers (and creatures) from being blasted by some ambitious (red-spell-wielding) opponents. Also, Deepglow Skate came to mind, as it has the potential to instantly grant you access to planeswalkers' ultimate abilities when it hits the field (which is even more fun when you're using multiple planeswalkers). Have fun with this brew!

Thanks for the nice comments Searcher314! Of course I'll check out your build. This deck is truly one of my all-time favorites to play, eventhough it might be considered 'old-fashioned' by some :) I don't think I ever had a bad game when I used it (it doesn't always win of course, but it's just great fun) and I don't think I'll ever quite get used to how powerful a large arsenal of enchantments can be.

I'm currently working on a new enchantment-themed deck, that features Zurgo Helmsmasher as its commander (sidenote: the deck is not going to be a voltron-deck). If Daxos is up your alley, I think you're going to like that one too. Thanks again for the post!

Looks good (but a tad bit expensive :)). Reconnaissance can act as a second Maze of Ith, which is very useful for both Kaalia and Master of Cruelties. Isshin, Two Heavens as One is awesome too, as he allows Kaalia to trigger twice per attack.

Yeah she's good Kjacobson6800 and I hadn't fully considered her yet. Grants the possibility of a lot more mana, and brings some additional combo potential as well. Maybe the next time I play this deck I'll replace Dwynen, Gilt-Leaf Daen for her and see how it goes. Thanks for the idea.
