As Magic becomes more and more of a "Wild West" in which the company that makes the game increasingly undermines the health of its sanctioned formats through power creep and the pursuit of short-term financial gains, I've decided to start a series in which I apply (what I see as) optimal deckbuilding principles to custom cardpools in hopes of achieving two goals:

1) Proving that Magic needs neither an influx of new cards nor Wizards of the Coast to be a creatively fulfilling and interesting game.

2) Creating cardpool contexts in which cool cards that do not see a great deal of play in either Commander or sanctioned constructed formats can shine.

Favorite card designs of all time (in no particular order)

  1. Dark Confidant
  2. Grist, the Hunger Tide
  3. Juzam Djinn
