MTG List: Gilgamesh options

Description

Potential commanders

listed are the potentials I feel are satisfactory for a potential Gilgamesh build. I will give an explanation why I fell they are worthy, and rate them based on two categories: flavor and usability

Brago- King Brago is very flavorful. obvi he is a king and his creature type is a spirit much like a servant. he is named the eternal which is sutable as he could be portraying the king of heroes. He even dresses in gold. sadly I find his ability lacking but the flying is a nice touch. Brago contains two colors that are well suited to artifacts and equipment. flavor- 9 usability- 5

Brimaz- Brimaz like Brago is also a king. sadly he is a cat, but he fits the more warrior version wielding his own sword, and obviously not as old as Brago (has old man beard). Brimaz also helps to create an army which my plan for any tokens is to turn them into "gate of Babylon" as attempting to animate the equipment is just silly. Brimaz also has a conmpanion in Kemba, but kemba would be included in any version allowing white. flavor-4 usability-7

heliod- he wwas included in this list because of his divinity. I do not believe he is a strong choice in either facets, but would more than likely be included in a white build as portraying the godly side of gilgamesh.

kemba- I included her more as a partner than an actual choice. she would normally be the main stay commander for a deck attempting to have a similar build, but Im trying to be different and compared to the others she does not carry the flavor.

macar- king Macar is the magic equivalent of King Midis. If I were trying to go more the lines of that historical reference it would be great as he has lots of treasures. He is lacking some what as his color identity is very limiting to making a decent deck to represent Archer. flavor-6 usability-2

Marchesa- oh queen marchesa!! she has the biggest selection of color identity which is exciting. She would be a prime example of a gender swapped archer as she bears the crown, commands an army (albeit of assassins) and actually creates a monarch within the game. her color identity is magnificent as I feel it is the best color combination that defines Gilgamesh which I will lay out later. flavor-8 usability-8

Breya- Breya is unique as she bears the four color combination. She does not bear any royalty but as a commander she bears quite the awesome tool set. She is an artifact which like reaper is off from the norm. Breya does it all though, she creates a flying army that allows the gates to open in the sky's. She can use artifacts (gates or treasures) to throw damage and kill creatures. The colors allow for some awesome inclusions, but might get away from the intended goal. Flavor-2 usability- 10

reaper king- added mostly because I can. He bears all 5 colors giving me the best realm to play in, but has no real connection in flavor or a reasonable usability. flavor-2 (still a king of something) usability-4 (color identify only)

last but not least

Tymaret- titled the murder king, I could easily see him as a Gilgamesh stand in. He is a king not afraid to kill and bears a gold mask (magic flavor relevant to the theros story). his typing is a zombie warrior which again like brago suits his position as a servant. his abilitys are pretty falvorful as well bearing an ability to "use" a gate of babylon to perform direct damage which is neat since it leaves my treasures intact. the down side to him is his color identity. black and red are prime colors for Archer, but missing the white really sucks as it is a color that contains the most equipment based help cards. flavor-7 usability- 6

as for the color identity of Gilgamesh I believe him to be the colors of Mrs. Marchesa. most of this I put together from his convversations with Kirei from Zero and reading through his page on the type moon wiki page.

red- Archer speaks of joy and attempting to help Kirei finding it. Also he is very destructive when fighting caring little for the surroundings or others. He often has mood swings switching targets based on "who has the right to look upon him." Archer also has a very high independent action score of A+ and Red is a color that enjoys freedom above all else.

black- black is the color of greed and self interest. which kinda explains iteself :)

white- his white roots are a little more difficult to speak upon. He is a king and as such he is responsible for civilizations. true he acts more as a tyrant than as a monarch, but in speaking with Kirei he mentions that the subjects he rulled had worth in that if he had to kill them after their work was completed he could not. I tried to find the exact exert but I dont remember the episode. Although he does not work as a organization he knows there is law and ethics in ruling a society. that and white is the best color for equipment and its use.

blue- I believe he has a minor splash of blue mostly linked to his story of seeking the elixir of life. even with that it is not an attribute he uses often and thus the only other connection is the ideal of technology. Because Gilgamesh has taken it upon himself to gather all treasures and all treasures are his; he has gathered a significant amount of rudimentary technology although sophisticated at the time.

green- im sure there is something in green that relates to him but I haven't found much so i am excluding it from his pool of colors. Plus boo on green
