This ended up being a very strange draft. I drafted GB splashing red for Ulrich of the Krallenhorde
Flip. I was drafting in a seven person pod, but the matches were spread out between 23 total players.
First round I had the bye, it was nice getting a free win, but I really wanted to just play. The store gave me a couple of cards as consolation prizes so that was cool.
Second round I played another GB deck and lost 1-2. I won game one nicely off an early Emerged Mockery of Nature. I mulliganed to 5 game two and couldn't really get going and lost to Accursed Witch
Flip and friends. Game three was going alright until a Tangleclaw Werewolf
Flip holding a Neglected Heirloom
Flip double-flipped into Fibrous Entangler
Flip wielding Ashmouth Blade
Flip. I didn't draw into my removal to deal with it and it killed all my creatures.
Third round I was playing against RW. I dispatched all his creatures with removal and even though he put my Tireless Tracker under Choking Restraints. I was able to generate and crack 6 clues, which helped me overwhelm him with creatures. He then had to suddenly leave and dropped after game one.
Fourth round, I sat down to play and then was informed by the judge that my opponent had just dropped. Yeah...
So my official record was 3-1, but I only played one full match and only four games the whole night. Worse still is that I lost the only full match I played. I feel like I don't even know how my deck performs because I didn't even get to use it that much.
Unknown Cards:
Ulrich of the Krallenhorde
Flip I think he would have been great. The pumping/fighting would have been very nice. I even was able to get a Mountain out almost every game. However, one game my solo Mountain got milled by Crow of Dark Tidings, so that was a bit of anti-synergy. I did, however, still have a chance of reanimating Ulrich with Ever After.
Ever After this seems like it was going to go nicely in my deck. I had huge creatures along with ways to get them in my graveyard. I was excited for that interaction but never got to cast it.
Ruthless Disposal was my P1P1 choice. It would have been helpful at times, but the cost is pretty steep. At first I thought you just have to sacrifice a creature but soon realized that you need to discard a card as well. Not sure what I think about this card.
Notable Cards:
Boon of Emrakul was solid. Killed something every time I played it. It was perfect against annoying creatures like Noose Constrictor.
2x Abundant Maw was great. The life drain really helped and it was a great attacker, especially when Emerged out early.
Ulvenwald Captive
Flip was nice, the mana ramp was great, but I sadly never got to transform it.
Collective Brutality was alright. I think I need to play more matches to like it more. I did like it as a potential outlet to get creatures in the graveyard to reanimate with Ever After.
Markov Crusader was very serviceable. I liked it and I didn't even take advantage of the Haste ability.
Mockery of Nature was great mostly as a big creature. I did like having a way to get rid of artifacts and enchantments even though I was never able to in my games. Destroying something like Choking Restraints, Sleep Paralysis, or a Slayer's Plate would be soooooo nice.
2x Prey Upon was nice, but probably not its best in my deck because of all my low-power creatures like Primal Druid.
Cultist's Staff was good to have. I originally had Borrowed Malevolence in the Staff's place, but soon switched it out. I like equipment and it seemed like the Staff would be more useful more often than the somewhat narrow combat trick. I was happy with the switch, especially when I got to equip stuff like Crow of Dark Tidings.
Primal Druid was very good. Solid blocker that you actually want to die. It was excellent Emerge fodder and helped me splash for Ulrich of the Krallenhorde
Flip.
THE BEST OF THE BEST:
Tireless Tracker was insane. It won me a game while being under Choking Restraints the entire time. It gives you cards and gets huge while doing so. I would love this in any green deck. Actually, would probably would splash for it in any/every deck.
Random note, I have not opened anything really great in any of my Eldritch Moon packs so far (even prize ones!). All of my power cards have come from SOI thus far.
