This was my second prerelease ever. I ended up playing a UG deck with a black splash and ended up going 2-1. I had a lot of fun and learned a lot. It was fortunate that I was able to play almost all of my rares/mythics (6 of them in the deck!). I agonized over the inclusion of Mindwrack Demon, I wanted to just try it out but the BB in the cost seemed hard to attain with my limited mana fixing. I ended up keeping it in and was glad even though I was never able to cast it (though I found two swamps every game except one). Delirium was hard for my deck to attain, but there were many instances where if I had drawn the demon, it would have been incredible. Fliers seemed really good, especially since I got the amazing equipment Slayer's Plate.
Notable cards:
Ulvenwald Hydra preformed really well, it was always the biggest creature and it held back all of the rare angels.
Slayer's Plate was incredible, it turned all my medium creatures into must-block threats, made my flying creatures game-ending, churned out a few flying spirits, and definitely helped win a few games.
Rabid Bite was super good, it is like a green burn spell. I wish I had more of them. I will definitely be putting these into my Pauper decks.
Sage of Ancient Lore
Flip was swingy, and generally seemed unimpressive to me. I liked that it drew me a card, but it's P/T is at odds with you playing your cards out and ends up shrinking pretty fast. I did play it turn 4 one game and was able to attack with a 10/10 Werewolf of Ancient Hunger
Flip and that was sweet.
Stormrider Spirit was very nice. I was able to flash it in to ambush block or to surprise attack every time. Because of Clues and werewolves, it wasn't even suspicious to pass the turn with enough mana open, and that led to many combat blowouts.
I definitely made some costly gameplay mistakes (might have be able to avoid the match loss), but still learned a lot and had a good time. I hope I will be able to draft this set and see how that compares.
