Legacy/Vintage Cube! Built to support an 8-person draft environment, where each 2-color pair is representing a staple deck from MtG's beefiest formats. Plenty of overlap between archetypes and colors, and very diverse mana-fixing available should allow for all sorts of viable decks in lots of color combinations. Additionally, every person who drafts gets a free Mental Misstep to include in their decklist.
Each color-pair has Alpha-Duals, Fetches, Shocks, Buddy-Lands, Man-Lands, and Surveil Lands available to draft, as well as some utility lands too (especially for Gruul Lands!)
Archetypes and Primers:
: Azorius Control
A classic archetype, Azorius Control aims to draw cards, counter spells, and remove threats with targeted removal like Swords to Plowshares or boardwipes like Supreme Verdict. The main win-con this looks for is Helm of Obedience and Rest in Peace to mill the opponent.
: Deadguy Ale
Deadguy Ale's main goals are to disrupt the opponent's hand with Inquisition of Kozilek and Hymn to Tourach, make it hard for your opponents to resolve and keep threats with Thorn of Amethyst and Liliana of the Veil, and close games out with Umezawa's Jitte, Kaldra Compleat, and Batterskull. Very much a midrange gameplan
: Boros Aggro
The Aggro gameplan is pretty self-explanatory: Burn the opponent with Lightning Bolt effects, keep pressure with Monastery Swiftspear and Ragavan, Nimble Pilferer, and punish non-basic builds with Magus of the Moon and Price of Progress. Mana Tithe and Wear / Tear give a little bit of counterplay.
: Maverick
Maverick is very much a HateBears list, trying to tax your opponent out of being able to resolve many spells and out-valuing them. Karakas is a powerhouse here, and Gaddock Teeg, Deafening Silence, and Aven Mindcensor reduce the options that your opponent has. Thrun, the Last Troll, Tarmogoyf, and Questing Beast are how you close out games.
: Reanimator
Reanimator has a pretty straightforward gameplan: put high-power creatures like Griselbrand, Atraxa, Grand Unifier, or Elesh Norn, Grand Cenobite into your graveyard with Entomb effects, and then use Footsteps of the Goryo, Exhume
, or Reanimate to cheat them out onto the battlefield for huge value. Be wary of Rest in Peace, as that can hose your whole strategy. Vampiric TutorGC and Demonic TutorGC help with consistency.
: Sneak and Show
What a classic deck! The goal here is to use Sneak Attack and Show and Tell to cheat out massive creatures/permanents and out-value your opponent. Omniscience is a great target for Show, and Emrakul, the Aeons Torn is a primo target for Sneak. Tons of card draw available in Dig Through Time and Treasure Cruise and some solid control options in Blood Moon and Vedalken Shackles. Stifle and Phyrexian Dreadnought are also a fun little combo!
Simic Ramp
So you like tons of mana? Well this archetype is for you. Candelabra of Tawnos is an insane mana engine in this, especially when paired with big mana lands like Ancient TombGC, City of Traitors, and the Urza's Tower Tron lands. Oko, Thief of Crowns is a solid early game play, and Fastbond lets you get tons of lands out. Your big mana payoffs are Ulamog, the Ceaseless Hunger, Karn Liberated, Ugin, the Spirit Dragon, and other big creatures. And if all else fails, Nexus of Fate *list* gives you a ton of extra turns and Walking Ballista is a perfect mana sink.
Storm
Wouldn't be an eternal format without storm! You generate mana and storm count with Cabal Ritual, Pyretic Ritual, and Lotus Petal, and your storm payoffs are Grapeshot, Empty the Warrens, and Tendrils of Agony. Grim Tutor lets you get consistency, and Lion's Eye DiamondGC into Ad NauseamGC lets you get crazy. And of course, Yawgmoth's Will is a powerhouse.
Dredge
Now this is an archetype that is going to be tough to draft, but it had to be included. Your dredgers are Golgari Grave-Troll, Stinkweed Imp, Golgari Thug and a few others. Vengevine and Hogaak, Arisen Necropolis are great cards to return from your graveyard, and Zombie Infestation is a great way to fill your graveyard and get value tokens. Bazaar of Baghdad is also a house here, letting you draw deep and add value cards to your graveyard.
Lands
You want your gameplan to be playing lands? This is the archetype for you. Notable lands include Boseiju, Who Shelters All, Dark Depths, Strip Mine, and The Tabernacle at Pendrell ValeGC. Wrenn and Six and Crucible of Worlds let you cycle lands through your graveyard, especially with Life from the Loam, and Mox DiamondGC has extra value in this build. Molten Vortex, Countryside Crusher, and Ruination Rioter are some solid ways to close out a game.
