Imoti and the Dino Hippo loss Turn 4. Played no spells after a mulligan. Kurtis created infinite Basalt Monolith 1/1 tokens via Urza, Prince of Kroog, which he played Turn 1 via Jeweled Lotus, and Training Grounds. Only this deck's third or fourth loss. 0-4

Admiral Beckett Brass' High Seas Robberies loss. Used Dockside Extortionist to get 8 treasures, Daring Discovery--which discovered Glaring Spotlight--let me steal a Blightsteel Colossus from Ba's The Infamous Cruelclaw after cloning it with Protean Raider. Benjamin's dragons hit me hard and Blaine's Gev, Scaled Scorch lizard deck just whittles everyone down. 0-2

Hi, I was curious about this deck so I played a few test-games with it. Mostly I was wondering whether it had enough momentum. After five test-games I found that it might be a bit lacking on this front. This is not surprising since it doesn't carry that many ramp/mana source cards. In terms of additional draw, it could also use some work.

For mana/ramp, I'd recommend Delighted Halfling, Birds of Paradise, Burgeoning, Exploration, Nature's Lore and/or Three Visits. For additional draw/filtering, perhaps cards like Mirri's Guile, Scroll Rack, Sensei's Divining Top or Sylvan Library.

It's also easier to share abilities between creatures when you include Odric, Lunarch Marshal. Good luck with this brew.

Xica you may disagree with the usage of Bonecrusher Giant and Consign to Memory, but I feel that is down to your own personal bias - both cards have been getting played as an answer to the One Ring. Conversely, a lot of the cards on your list aren’t being run in modern at all, because their application is just incredibly narrow/weak/pointless.

Is the purpose of this list to provide players with a realistic guide on feasible options for fighting the One Ring, or lead-them-astray by presenting a host of non-playable cards that don’t practically do enough?

Nice deck. Fell Specter can add some additional value to opponents discarding (in them receiving damage for that as well as lose cards to the GY). Geth's Grimoire is exceptional value in a deck like this. Also, Cunning Lethemancer works really well when combined with Tergrid, I think. Good luck with the brew!

Frankly Consign to Memory is just a newer version of Ceremonious Rejection, if you ask me its good, but its overvalued. Both are extreme narrow spells.
I was always of the opinion that having a lot of catch all answers, is superior. Even if they are weaker in a specific use case, than silver bullets. As a silver bullet hiding somewhere in your 53, is gonna affect the game way less, than the "meh" but relevant cards in hand.
Hence why i say Counterspell, Force of Negation and the likes are superior.
Aside from "on cast" triggers of eldrazi, in an eldrazi heavy meta, i would say consign to memory is a deckbuilding trap. If you need a counterspell, in most matchups it only works against the ring. And as a "counter ability" card its one of the worst, as the alternatives like Tishana's Tidebinder are superior.

Bonecrusher Giant is fine, but again, its just one of the million "stop lifegain & damage prevention" effects of red.
All of which are useful only in a very narrow range of situations.
They are relevant in matchups where you are racing the one ring, and that single fog turn makes or breaks the game. Even for burn, letting the ring player untap, and burning them out on upkeep (after protection from everything worn off) is still an option. The cards i listed are applicable in way more situations than helping in not slowing down with the laft 5 lifepoints.

multimedia Thornbite Staff is the most powerful combo piece in the deck, Ghoulcaller Gisa requires tapping and sacing a creature as a cost, after which the staff will untap her. This lets you dump all your mana into her to make zombies, also it goes infinite when combined with cards like Pitiless Plunderer or Gravecrawler + Bontu's Monument. Now Warren Soultrader while not infinite with this combo by it self, it is still good value.

OMFG you're right, this is SO FUN!!! I've been playtesting this and have a few observations:

This deck needs more creatures. Citanul Stalwart and Fauna Shaman are your biggest MVPs. If you know of another card like Shaman, you should consider adding it it's fantastic imo. Shaman and Eldritch Evolution both require a sacrifice of a creature card and I found I was often lacking a creature to activate either ability. Stalwart and Springleaf Drum also require creatures (or artifacts) to provide you with emergency mana. If there was more material for those, this deck would be considerably faster.

I never saw The World Spell in any of my hands or draws while testing, and while it might theoretically be possible to hard cast it in a longer game, that just doesn't feel worth it to me. Reckoner Bankbuster is not a creature most of the time and that hamstrings the deck like I mentioned before. I'd get rid of both and add some combo of Jaspera Sentinel, Loam Dryad, or Saruli Caretaker. I'd also maybe get at least a couple copies of a less costed draw spell. Once you're set up with Omniscience, Harmonize is awesome, but not before, at least in my playtesting. Because you can't play it with Kona. Idk maybe I'm wrong.

Speaking ofOmniscience, for payoffs, might I suggest Jin-Gitaxias, Core Augur? It's not that expensive, I'd only get one or two at most because of the no blue mana thing, and it really fits the YGO theme because it prevents your opponents from playing the game so hard! It also refills your hand so that you can keep on casting spells from your hand for free!

I've been looking for a new 60 card deck to play - maybe this will be it!!!!!!

Collective Brutality can’t hit One Ring (i know it’s not on your list but you did mention it above).

In a lot of matchups Pick Your Poison is a viable option.

You might want a category for denying the fog effect. Stuff like Bonecrusher Giant has been seeing some play in decks that just want to push for damage.

I know you don’t want counterspells added, but its probably worth at least mentioning Consign to Memory as that card is being included in sooo many sideboards (and in pretty high quantities), and has become one of the default best answers.

I didn't want to list counterspells and targeted discard, since they are the trivial choice.
I mean all of them work.

And there is a LOT of them. I didn't want to list all flavours of Counterspell with various up and downsides. And same goes for Thoughtseize, Duress, Mire's Toll, Collective Brutality. There are way too many.
And targeted discard is a way sketchier proposition than counterspells, as they turn the game into topdeck - where they don't help against the one ring.

if making copies of your artifacts is something you want to do, then i suggest using Three Steps Ahead and Worldwalker Helm. in my simulacrum deck it goes on curve turn 3, 4, and 5 to start churning out simulacrums every turn. turn 1 and 2 vary a bit but turn three is usually either Simulacrum Synthesizer, Assimilation Aegis, Braided Net  Flip, Steel Seraph or Thran Spider. then at turn 4 i hold up mana for Three Steps Ahead and copy at instant speed. then turn 5 i play Worldwalker Helm for 3 and then hold up mana to copy the artifact token when i feel like it. you may like this. you definitely dont need to go white for this its just my preference. worldwalker is especially fun because it buffs the constructs by making the copy and also making maps.

here is my deck list for reference. https://tappedout.net/mtg-decks/20-04-24-standard-artifacts/

Also, I have found cards like Ramunap Excavator help ensure consistent land drops and maximize the use of additional land drop abilities. Lastly, Crop Rotation into a Shifting Woodlands has worked really well for me as the Woodlands acts as a redundancy to key permanents in the deck.

Hey, those are good changes since Warren Soultrader is an infinite sac combo with Gravecrawler + Bontu's Monument, this gives you a wincon without needing to attack.

Three cuts to consider are Bad Moon, Stoneforge Masterwork and Gruesome Fate since these cards do nothing without having creatures in your control and even then I don't think they are needed. Now that you may be adding Soultrader then I don't think you need Fate. Fate could potentially be a wincon if you can't attack with your Zombie horde, but now Soultrader combo can be the nonattacking wincon and you don't need a Zombie horde to win.

For other cuts to consider, some of the lesser removal spells Murder, Poison the Cup, Assassin's Ink since the others you have here are better. Next cuts could be switching recursion Ghoulcaller's Chant, Cemetery Recruitment, Stitch Together for more lower mana cost reanimation. Stitch could be reanimation, but not in the early game where you want it.

You could cut two cards that are only good with Gisa Thornbite Staff (is there a combo here with Staff that I don't see?) and Patriar's Seal, replacing them with more haste enablers. The haste enablers are good with Gisa plus they can protect her, but also with any creature you reanimate as well as protecting Soultrader when combo.

Other cuts to consider could be some of the lesser creatures Gempalm Polluter, Nested Shambler, Death Tyrant for some better reanimation targets. Consider cutting the 3-4 drop ramp Heraldic Banner, Nyx Lotus for draw?

Feed the Swarm can be an important removal spell for mono black since it can remove an enchantment. Vile Mutilator can be reanimated and it makes each opponent sac an enchantment as well as a creature. Bubbling Muck with 30x Swamps could produce a lot of mana on your turn. If you want more ramp then Muck/Mind Stone/Jet Medallion are good options.

Hey, Gisa only having one haste source here makes her really slow to get going, if at all. Lightning Greaves, Swiftfoot Boots, Lavaspur Boots, consider maxing out on these haste sources? If you already control one then have more ways to discard away the others Collector's Vault, Putrid Imp?

There's some 2 drop mana rocks/cost reduction you could add to increase ramp Mind Stone/Jet Medallion, but I think you would be better off using these deck spots to improve potential early game reanimation. You have some reanimation, but what I don't see here are effects that can get Zombies into your graveyard to reanimate before you get Gisa as a sac outlet.

Collector's Vault, Diresight, Entomb, Unmarked Grave, Buried Alive, Lively Dirge, Putrid Imp these are spells you could potentially cast long before you control Gisa. Getting some cards into your graveyard a little faster helps Stitch Together's threshold. Can even play more potential early game draw Night's Whisper/Sign in Blood to get more than 7 cards in hand which then you can at your Cleanup step discard down to 7 cards as free discard to setup reanimation. If you're discarding creatures to reanimate then consider increasing lower mana cost reanimation Reanimate, Animate Dead, Persist, Necromancy?

Consider adding an earlier game reanimation plan to get Grave Titan onto the battlefield? Titan being a repeatable Zombie token source can hold down the fort until you get Gisa going. In the meantime, Titan could do damage to opponents. Archon of Cruelty also isn't a Zombie, but is an excellent reanimation target, who if you can control it in the earlier game can give you a huge advantage. When your Commander can create creature tokens and with Grave Titan, Altar of Bhaal is powerful repeatable reanimation when you have creature tokens to exile.

I hope this advice was helpful and if you're interested I offer more advice about what cards to consider cutting.
