Irys, Titan of Passionate Discourse

Legendary Creature - Elder Titan

When Irys enters the battlefield, sacrifice it unless it escaped.

Whenever Irys enters the battlefield or attacks, scry 3. Target opponent may have you draw that card. If they don't, reveal it instead and put it into your graveyard. It deals damage equal to its mana value to any target they control.

Escape , exile five other cards from your graveyard.

6/6

For the artwork of this one, I'd like to think it's a female Titan who is gripping a crumbling temple as she screams with sonic waves emanating from her mouth with such force that it is crumbling stone.

For added flavor, she has bloodied bandages and chains wrapping her head, eyes, ears and wrists.

Felipix yea, i don't know how to build Malcolm either. And I understand not wanting to do flying tribal lol, I have that in my Atarka, World Render deck, it's boring.

Here are some options to big blue guys:

Octavia, Living Thesis is a big boi, who can cost not a lot sometimes. Can also play into your control, as you're casting spells, so making things big, so you can swing with big. And ward .

Lorthos, the Tidemaker is pretty self-explanatory. Also a bit of control.

Nezahal, Primal Tide... is. It's good, just not sure how to build it.

Tromokratis is 'die in 3 hits or die to an army of my other creatures' commander. Also my favorite mono-blue legendary.

Note: I am just a messenger here, I know very little about how this actually works. So the devs of this site will have to be the ones to answer any questions or concerns you may have.

Femme_Fatale on New Feature in Progress: LLM …

Tappedout is developing a new large language model search engine. You can find this new form of search by clicking on the eyeglass in the top right in the site’s header, then clicking on “Card Search” that appears in the dropdown. You’ll be redirected to the advanced card search page. At the top of this page there will be tabs you can click on. One says “search” and the other says “LLM search”. By default it lands you on the normal search tab, so click the “LLM search” tab to access it.

How to Use It?

When you land on the LLM search page you’ll be presented with two input fields. The first one is hard data. That is, data that is printed on the card, other than the textbox. Things like colour, mana value, type and subtype, name, etc can be filtered in this field. The second one is semantic data, the effect you’re looking for on the text box.

An example:

  • Hard data: Creature that cost less than 3 mana
  • Semantic data: Makes zombies stronger.

It is important to split these two up because if you write down “aggressive creature” in the semantic data it’ll give you a bunch of things that buff your creatures as these all care about and modify creatures.

There is also an embedded feedback system with thumbs up and thumbs down buttons to the left to denote which results you see make sense and which ones do not. Do note however that a feature that’s in progress is an input form to list things that are missing with your specific search results.

Limitations and Restrictions

This being an LLM search engine means that it has some restrictions on what it is capable of doing that you will want to know beforehand.

It can:

  • Filter by all the normal values a card can have.
  • Look for vaguely described effects.
  • Frequently compare your input with cards that have a similar name linguistically.
  • Frequently prefer the reminder text of cards of french vanilla style of cards.
  • Be quite good at getting kindred stuff.

It can’t:

  • Look at what’s in the art of a card.
  • Cross reference a popular deck archetype or name.
  • Check the intrinsic mechanics of the language you are using.
  • Use an existing deck on the site.
  • Use magic slang or meta terminology.
  • Use an individual/multiple card(s) as a reference.

However, the list of things it will do and things it can’t do are work in progress. The devs are working to deliver an improved version to you as soon as possible, but understand that LLMs have limitations and they may not be able to fully deliver on what they or you want.

Additional Notes

This LLM is trained on tappedout’s own card data, so it cannot give you results based on information that the site doesn’t have; like scryfall’s tagging data or mtgtop8’s historical decklist data.

Also, there are limits to the amount of times you can use this search: 3 times per week for free users, 20 for upgraded users and 250 for subscribed users. This restriction is not set in stone and will fluctuate as the costs of running this engine are evaluated.

Oh! And one last stealing and blinking forbidden lore card is Nephalia Smuggler. Note that its effect returns the card to your control, not its owner's!!! So you can bounce a creature that is stolen temporarily by an effect like Callous Oppressor, and then it comes back under your control for good...

Well, until you give it away of course.

Recommend cutting Inspiring Refrain for it.

I know you are trying to cut cards, but I have to recommend Coveted Falcon, for the sheer power of how many permanents you can Give to the Poor at once, and the card replacement you get for them as well.

If I had to recommend a cut, I'd say Helm of Possession. The sacrifice cost is a bit steep.

How about Surgical Extraction or Extirpate? Same effect, one can be paid with life, the other has Split Second. A benefit of this effect is that if you choose a nonland card, you can potentially remove up to 3 land cards from its owner's deck deck, making your Mind Funeral effects even more potent. Your choice between these two would probably depend on the amount and types of interaction in your work pod.

Edit: Considering your manabase is mostly focused, Surgical Extraction might be the go-to.

Wow that’s a lot of great ideas slvstrChung. I’m going to maybeboard them here, although I don’t intend on changing this one just yet. I like the straight split, and even though this is certainly on the slower side, it’s surprisingly consistent. What I’d actually like to do is see if I can get either a deck up and running, focusing more on speed like you said. That would be…interesting…

I love this idea. I also love that, having read so many of your decks by now, I was able to predict exactly what I would find simply by reading the title and then looking at the card list. I had no idea there were so many less-than-$1 repeatable Proliferate sources!

My first thought was similar to Lando's: that Green would be helpful. But my main reason was to Rampant Growth our way to the Senate faster. You've got a lot of cards that help after the Elocutors are on the table, but the fact that I have to wait until Turn 6 to start firing off... Well, you've seen my decks and you know I love me my microbudget brews, but I've been able to hit wincon by Turn 4 in a lot of places. Also, while I'm not sure how much Repeatable Proliferate there is in Green, I think this deck is at least plausible in Simic.

My other thought was that I'd want some sort of fetch spell to find the Elocutors, and a lot of those come in Green (Adventure Awaits, Feral Encounter, Commune with Nature, Incubation / Incongruity, Lead the Stampede, Seek the Wilds). Of course, with a full playset, maybe I don't need this spell too often.

My problem with nezahal is that on my country, and my budget, nezahal is expansive, make me the archenemy, and the one thing that I dont want as a control player is make everyone look at my commander and kill me at turn 3 so they can "have a fun game"

I am interested in making an Owen Grady, Raptor Trainer and Blue, Loyal Raptor deck via their Partner ability and was doing some research on what direction I wanted to take the deck. I noticed multiple YouTube videos indicated Blue could put multiple +1/+1 counters onto dinosaurs making that a very potent strategy. However, when I read Blue, it seems like you would only put a single +1/+1 counters onto in dinosaurs regardless of how many there are on Blue. Can someone provide some additional thoughts?

@hemalgiac: Grim Monolith costs to untap. You're thinking of Basalt Monolith, which does cost . That one would work.

hemalgiac on Grim Monolith + Forsaken Monument …

Sorry this is a late comment for this post, but Grim Monolith and Forsaken Monument do in fact produce infinite mana. Forsaken Monument states that when you tap a permanent (that means mana rocks too), you add an additional colorless to your pool. So with both permanents on the field, now when you tap Grim Monolith, you net 4 so now you can use 3 of the 4 floating colorless to untap the monolith and rinse and repeat. This will essentially produce infinite mana. So the person online was mistaken in the sense that he thought Forsaken Monument produces double mana. It just adds 1 more colorless to permanents when they're tapped. Again, I apologize this is late and you may have found an answer already.

Your best bet is probably checking out EDHREC, picking an interesting commander, and selecting the budget theme.

Otherwise, what is your preferred style of play? Do you want to beat face, control, or pillow?

How do you want to win? Self mill, mill, swinging, commander, alt?

What did you like and/or not like about Nez?

Rhadamanthus on Valkyrie's Call and Zur, Eternal …

It won't be an Angel. A card can only have subtypes that go with the types it has. Angel is only a subtype for the Creature and Kindred (formerly "Tribal") card types. In this example Valkyrie's Call is just an Enchantment when it comes back, so it can't have the Angel subtype.

If Zur turns Call into a Creature again, it will be an Angel. This is because the two type-changing effects form a dependency, since applying Zur's effect would change what the Call's effect does to itself. So the type-changing part of Call's effect is dependent on Zur's effect, meaning Zur's effect is applied first instead of using timestamp order.

I realized that I had moved Sword of Body and Mind out of the 99. This card synergizes with both Aurelia and Godo. Equip the sword on any other creature and you get infinite attacks (akin to Helm of the Host). I had a tough time deciding what to take out and decided on swapping out Mizzium Mortars. I really like this card for the 1-sided wraith effects and I always want at least two wraiths in my deck, but find that hordes of small creatures are less of a problem then one big one. And I still have Blasphemous Act and Pyrohemia, so keeping instant speed spot removal has priority (and I don't want to drop it any lower than it already is).

But there are other cards on the "chopping block", which include: Nahiri, the Lithomancer (I've literally never drawn this in a game but it's there primarily for the -2) or possibly Nahiri, Forged in Fury (again I cannot ever recall drawing this in game). We'll see.

Specific changes. All of these changes optimize card draw, tutoring, protection to board state, create synergies and infinite combos, and optimization to allow instant speed responses.

OUT: Ardenn, Intrepid Archaeologist (thought this would be awesome, disappointed in performance) Assemble the Players (sub-optimal card draw) Aurelia's Fury Bitterthorn, Nissa's Animus (land drops have not been a problem and by the time I draw it, I needed something else) Brimaz, King of Oreskos (love this guy, but had to cut) Chained to the Rocks Elbrus, the Binding Blade  Flip (obtained better equipment) Fellwar Stone Hixus, Prison Warden (never happy when I had this in hand because you need to let the damage land, plus you fail to build board state when waiting to draw a punch) Illusionist's Bracers (I realized there was little in this deck that this could help) Kemba, Kha Enduring (I want the option of where the equipment goes) Kjeldoran Outpost (did help create a chump blocker and spend unused mana, but I didn't like losing the land) Lapse of Certainty (replaced with better options, but I love this card) Lightning Helix Path of Mettle  Flip (never had good results) Prophetic Flamespeaker (under-performed) Puresteel Paladin (tough cut) Purphoros, God of the Forge (under-performed) Rogue's Passage Sea Gate Wreckage Silverblade Paladin (love this guy, tough cut) Sram, Senior Edificer (very tough and recent cut for Leonin Shikari and Merry, who are just better but I may put back in) Sword of the Animist (land drops have not been a problem and by the time I draw it, I needed something else) Wingmate Roc (love it but under-performed)

In: Esper Sentinel (card draw) Leonin Shikari (instant speed equiping is amazing) Merry, Esquire of Rohan (card draw) Enlightened Tutor (great for combos/synergies) Sigarda's Aid (so great) Pyrohemia (this card is a beast with Iroas! Even without Iroas must people don't have easy ways to deal with enchantments and this is a wraith on a stick. I've added it to all of my red decks and it's cousin (Pestilence) to my black decks in a slot I would normally hold for a wraith) Teferi's Protection (protect the board state) Excalibur, Sword of Eden Fighter Class (tutor!) Angelic Skirmisher (lifelink to stretch game and facilitates infinite combos) Splendor Mare (put it on Reckoner or Spitemare, give them indestructable, and gain infinite life, or move it to pyrohemia with nesting grounds to get massive amounts of life as you flamethrower the whole table!!) Mask of Avacyn (better option then shroud from boots, you need to be able to dynamically react/voltron) Mob Rule (this just finishes games) Smothering Tithe (ramp) Sunforger (some say you must build around this, I say you use this as a key tutor for when you need an instant) Nesting Grounds Spitemare The One Ring (card draw, duh) Minas Tirith (card draw) Sunhome, Fortress of the Legion (value engine, mana dump) Phyrexian Vindicator (beefy flier, helps get Iroas online, and difficult to remove) War of the Last Alliance (tutor) Hall of Heliod's Generosity (bring back pyrohemia and flamethrower the world all over again!!) Mask of Memory (card draw) Boromir, Warden of the Tower (protect board state)
