You are correct pinecone2k3. Attack triggers phrased "whenever ~ attacks" happen if the creature is declared as an attacker during the declare attackers phase, but don't happen if something enters tapped and attacking.

From the MtG Wiki page on Combat:

506.3a If an effect would put a noncreature permanent onto the battlefield attacking or blocking, the permanent does enter the battlefield but it’s never considered to be an attacking or blocking permanent.

I’m pretty happy with all of it - but would have preferred safer unbans to Looting & Opal. Both of those cards are only ever going to be used for degeneracy.

I’m happiest when the format is led by midrange strategies. I’m not convinced this announcement will deviate us in any direction other than more aggro & combo decks… but we’ll see.

In any case i’m super happy the Ring is finally gone!

pinecone2k3 on Altair + Aurelia

If I understand correctly, a creature or creature token entering the battlefield “tapped and attacking” does not trigger “whenever [this creature] attacks” abilities, due to rules terminology shenanigans that cause “enters tapped and attacking” to be different from choosing the creature as one of your attackers during the combat step.

If I am incorrect on this, I would love some clarification, myself.

Rune that prevents sacrifice:

Tajuru's Preservation

Rare

Enchantment - Aura Rune

Enchantment permanent.

When Tajuru's Preservation enters, draw a card.

As long as enchanted permanent is a creature, it gets "Spells and abilities your opponents control can’t cause you to sacrifice this creature."

As long as enchanted permanent is an Equipment, it has "Equipped creature has 'Spells and abilities your opponents control can’t cause you to sacrifice this creature.'"

The phrasing for the equipment portion tripped me up a bit, especially for the quotes in the quotation.

Wild, or make a card that continues the Elder creature type without an existing Elder type.

Rhadamanthus on Valkyrie's Call and Zur, Eternal …

My reasoning is that the two effects form a dependency with each other, partly because of rule 205.3d. The two type-changing effects - Zur's effect that adds the creature type and Call's effect that adds the Angel subtype - apply in the same layer (Layer 4) and applying one of them (Zur) would change what the other (Call) applies to or what it does to any of the things it applies to. This means Call's effect is dependent on Zur's effect and Zur's effect needs to be applied first to determine the object's final characteristics even though Call has an earlier timestamp.

613.8. Within a layer or sublayer, determining which order effects are applied in is sometimes done using a dependency system. If a dependency exists, it will override the timestamp system.
613.8a An effect is said to “depend on” another if (a) it’s applied in the same layer (and, if applicable, sublayer) as the other effect; (b) applying the other would change the text or the existence of the first effect, what it applies to, or what it does to any of the things it applies to; and (c) neither effect is from a characteristic-defining ability or both effects are from characteristic-defining abilities. Otherwise, the effect is considered to be independent of the other effect.
613.8b An effect dependent on one or more other effects waits to apply until just after all of those effects have been applied. If multiple dependent effects would apply simultaneously in this way, they’re applied in timestamp order relative to each other. If several dependent effects form a dependency loop, then this rule is ignored and the effects in the dependency loop are applied in timestamp order.
613.8c After each effect is applied, the order of remaining effects is reevaluated and may change if an effect that has not yet been applied becomes dependent on or independent of one or more other effects that have not yet been applied.

The_True_Stav on Valkyrie's Call and Zur, Eternal …

I'm not sure that Rhadamanthus is fully correct here.

Valkyrie's call will bring itself back if you animated it with Zur, however since it comes back just as an enchantment and not a creature, it can't gain the "Angel" creature type. From the comp rules:

205.3d An object can’t gain a subtype that doesn’t correspond to one of that object’s types.

It still gets the +1/+1 counter and flying I believe, but it doesn't get the Angel subtype at all. This means that even if you animate it later on, it still won't be an Angel and can effectively come back as many times as you want. This also applies to any other non-creature enchantments you animate with Zur.

Rhadamanthus on Clone/copy interactions with Squee, the …

No, you won't be able to do what you're thinking. If a Clone copy of Squee, the Immortal dies or gets exiled, the card in the graveyard/exile zone will just be a Clone, not a Squee. When an object changes zones, the game treats it as a new object with no relation to what it was before, minus a few exceptions needed to make certain effects work properly (none of those exceptions help here). The Clone card in the graveyard/exile zone won't "remember" anything about the choices made for it when it entered the battlefield earlier.

I was concerned over what I had assumed to be an infinite combo with Altair and Aurelia. Using Maskwood Nexus, I was able to exile Aurelia, The Warleader with a memory counter on her, then return a token copy of her to the battlefield tapped and attacking. Her ability states that when she attacks, I get another combat phase, thus giving me infinite attack phases with Altair's ability. But something doesn't sit right with me and I just want to know what the proper ruling on this matter is.

Kaalia will always be one of my favorite commanders. That first batch of commander decks were special.

This is a really neat shell. I like your use of niche white control spells like Abeyance and Orim's Chant. Would something like Conqueror's Flail be useful here?

I really like your use of Necrodominance and Necropotence. Is this speeding up your wins?

A playset of cards from my list that I think would be excellent here:

Eiganjo Castle kaalia protection

Arena of Glory best haste enabler

Chance for Glory wins games

Cataclysm the math is on your side

Sneak Attack kaalia #2

Cut all the creatures that don't fit the tribes. Keep Mother of Runes. The rest are just good stuff.

In our D&D session tonight, we encountered a Vampire. She had been reduced to ash and contained within an urn inscribed with runes to hold her back like a prison. Well ahem SOMEONE decided that it's "just an urn" and picked it up, accidentally dropped it and now the entire group is enthralled by her...

Well anyway, the mini that the DM used was more of like a Demonic Vampire Naga.

She had the long tendril snake body, that was bloody red like exposed muscle. She sprouted massive torn leathery bat wings, and has the top half of her body as a woman's torso, arms and head. Clearly vampiric in nature, but again exposed muscle and bloodied flesh.

Make her.

We don't have a name for her, so just make one up.

DemonDragonJ on Innistrad Remastered Speculation and Wishlist

Previews for Innistrad remastered have begun, so here is a link to what has been revealed, thus far; some of the cards are not surprising, such as Emrakul, the Promised End, Liliana of the Veil, Blood Artist, Archangel Avacyn  Flip, or Edgar Markov, but others are more so, such as Mass Hysteria, so I hope that the majority of the cards in this set are cards that players wish to be reprinted.

I hope that the original version of Avacyn, Avacyn, Angel of Hope shall be reprinted, along with Bruna, Light of Alabaster, Gisela, Blade of Goldnight, and Sigarda, Host of Herons, and it also would be nice to have either version of Liesa reprinted, as well.

I heard that the "slow lands" (i.e., Deathcap Glade, Sundown Pass, and so forth) may be reprinted, and it would be nice, but I still would prefer to see reprints of the enym-colored "check lands" (i.e., Hinterland Harbor, Isolated Chapel, and so forth), since the original printings of those cards are the only printings that feature the original artwork and are also available in foil.

What cards are other players, here, hoping to see, in this set?

I've not even played this deck. Is it good or something? In testing it seems odd to have vehicles or "creatures" that aren't creatures, that you have to have real creatures to make said vehicles a creature. Then and only then can you begin attacking. Which, to not much avail as not every vehicle is powerful and/or has an evasive ability. So I'm just attacking sometimes, drawing some cards and oddly discarding with the commander. It doesn't strike me as a reanimator or recursion based deck, especially color wise but rather, to utilize Shorikai most, he seems better as an IsoRev/infinite untaps commander. If anyone can explain why I should keep this deck--I will--but the attention on this deck has my attention as to why--am I missing something?

DemonDragonJ on How Can I Put Sunhome …

I would like to put Sunhome Guildmage into these two EDH decks, but I am not certain what cards I should remove to make room, for it. For my Gisela, Blade of Goldnight deck, it shall be an easy decision to replace Boros Charmfoil with the guildmage, but I am less certain about my Numot, the Devastator deck, since replacing the charm with the guildmage would leave that deck with one fewer card that would synergize with Whirlwind of Thought and Wandering Mind, so I could possibly replace another card, with the guildmage, instead.

What does everyone else say, about this? How can I put Sunhome Guildmage into these two decks? I certainly would appreciate any feedback that you are able to offer, on this subject.
