wallisface on What Card Should ReplaceSpidersilk Armor?

Just looking at this deck now - what are you hoping to achieve with it? Your deck description notes it as being an "aggressive" deck, but without any 1-mana cards, and such a high density of high-mana cards, I only see it playing incredibly slow/durdly.

If you're making any changes to this deck, my strong suggestion would be to focus on drastically lowering the mana curve, and finding ways to speed up the deck. I don't think any of the cards you've suggested above do that.

Flarhoon13 on Zur the enchanter

May 3, 2024 I started a new quest. Having built 52 decks, I endeavoured to play them all, in roughly the same order as I created them. This was my first commander deck. Zur the Enchanter *f-etch* won May 3, everyone hated it. Ethan was on a new insect brew. The other two players, Blaine and Jesse, were just shut down by Back to Basicsfoil. It was a blowout and Blaine especially was pissed off, haranguing me for enjoying making my opponents miserable. 1-0

Marks statement applies very well to competitive 1-v-1 formats, where shuffling can consume a decent chunk of the clock time, and generally be a detriment to the game.

From a commander perspective, the entire point of the format having a singleton card-restriction and requiring egregiously-large 100-card decks is to create variance in games and allow for a more casual play environment - and tutors push against that ethos. (note I don't play commander)

I am all for a reduction of tutoring effects in favor of them exploring more alternate card avenues. It's also worth noting though, that tutoring effects are still being made - we saw one in Duskmourn!

DemonDragonJ on Why is WotC Reducing the …

In this post, Mark Rosewater stated that WotC is reducing the amount of cards that allow players to search their libraries for two reasons: first, to prevent games from being too repetitive and to reduce the amount of shuffling that occurs, and I can understand that idea, but I wish for my decks to be consistent, because I would hardly feel motivated to play if my decks were unreliable. Also, I am not too upset with needing to shuffle, frequently, so that reason seems to be rather ridiculous, to me.

What does everyone else say, about this? What are your opinions, on this matter?

DemonDragonJ on Rules Change to Combat

plakjekaas, is that a good thing? I severely dislike all this emphasis on attacking and aggression, so I would like to have some reassurance that WotC still support defensive strategies and forcing an opponent to exhaust their resources in an attempt to break through one's defenses before defeating them.

Hi Femme_Fatale, I use Firefox as my primary browser for my mobile and desktop devices. I've made card submissions both on mobile and desktop in the past off Firefox browsers without any issue. Occasionally I will do uploads off Chrome, if I'm using my work laptop.

I can try submitting another new card off mobile browser to see if it's still an issue.

A few suggestions for losing the few friends who still want to play Magic with you: With Suppressor Skyguard or Mystic Barrier in combination with Pramikon, Sky Rampart, your opponent can’t attack you anymore. Cards like Archon of Absolution, Blazing Archon, Windborn Muse, Kazuul, Tyrant of the Cliffs, Archangel of Tithes, and Baird, Steward of Argive can also stop attacks from your opponent and are definitely worth checking out.

Since I see you’re playing a lot of enchantments and artifacts, I’d recommend including some tutors like Idyllic Tutor, Fabricatefoil, or Enlightened Tutor. I’d also suggest a few pieces of removal, such as Cyclonic Rift, Path to Exile, and Swords to Plowshares. Finally, consider adding Esper Sentinel for taxing and card draw.

I'm a bit late on this submission, but this was an issue that popped up for me yesterday on mobile browser (Firefox). I tried submitting a new card for Foundations Jumpstart (J25) on mobile, and encountered a 403 "Access Denied" type page after I hit submit. Unfortunately, I forgot to grab a screenshot.

I successfully submitted the same card on my desktop browser later in the day, and have already received a site notification that my submission was approved/awarded.

Mostly wanted to bring this to your attention in case there are any issues with new card submissions off mobile browsers.

The entirety of the auto-generated frame stuff does need an overhaul to at least bring it visually on par with MSE for simple M15 frame stuff. Been something I've been wanting to do for years now but it's just never really been a big priority.

Absolutely not touching showcase frames though. I had photoshopped the ELD showcase frame for the MSE folks and dear god that took forever.

A custom T/O set symbol is definitely something I'll log down.

Double strike, trample

Whenever you play a land or an enchantment, create a food token.

Sacrifice five food tokens: Untap D'vranthukl.

plakjekaas on Rules Change to Combat

The most important thing this does, is making combat tricks less defensively usable.

A 5/5 attacks, defending player blocks with 2 3/3 creatures:

Old: defending player waits until the blocking order is assigned, then casts Giant Growth on the first one, saving both his creatures.

New: defending player has to cast Giant Growth to save one before damage, then the attacking player will divide the damage among blocking creatures, still able to kill the creature without the Giant Growth on it.

legendofa on Rules Change to Combat

Icbrgr That's how it worked before. 1 damage from a deathtouch creature was considered lethal damage, and no further damage needed to be assigned. Before, and now, deathtouch reduced the amount of damage needed to kill a creature from "equal to toughness" to "1".

In your scenario, there wasn't ever a point where the deathtoucher needed to deal 4 damage to kill one of the walls. It needed to deal enough damage to kill it, and deathtouch defines that number as just 1. So the deathtoucher deals 1 damage to wall #1, killing it, then deals 1 damage to wall #2, killing it, too.

The big difference is that now non-deathtouchers can distribute their damage in the same way, but neither of the walls will be killed. This matters for something like Death Charmer's triggered ability. If it attacked into two 0/4 walls before, it could only deal combat damage to one of them, and the opponent loses 2 life or pays once. Now, it can deal 1 (nonlethal) damage to each of them, and the opponent has to pay or lose 2 life twice.

plakjekaas on Rules Change to Combat

Without the rule change that was also the case. How it used to work:

Creature attacks, defending player assigns blockers. Attacking player "stacks" the blockers in order of which he wants his attacker to deal damage to. Attacking player assigns damage to those creatures in that order, but must deal lethal damage to the first creature before they can go to the next one. You could still deal more than lethal to the first creature (maybe you didn't want the second one to die). Then state-based actions are checked, and creatures with lethal damage marked on them, die.

Deathtouch is defined as: any amount of damage dealt by this creature is lethal damage to that creature. So in your example, the 2/3 deathtouch can assign 1 (lethal) damage to each of the creatures. If there were 3 blocking 0/4s, two of them die and one survives.

How it will work with foundations:

Creature attacks, defending player assigns blockers. Attacking player chooses the amount of damage dealt by the attacker to the blocking creatures. Damage is dealt. State-based, creatures with lethal damage die.

For deathtouch it works exactly the same, because every damage is lethal. A 4/4 blocked by 2 3/3s, now has options it didn't have before, you could in the new way, assign 2 damage to each blocker and kill none of them. That option didn't exist in the old way, there you have to deal at least 3 damage to the first blocker before you could deal any to the second.

Icbrgr on Rules Change to Combat

I think from what I get out of this is deathtouch goes in favor of attacking because of how damage assignment goes.

Not that I think it was ever a good idea to double block a deathtouch creature... but if a 2/3 deathtouch creature attacks into two 0/4 walls I think with the rule change the 2/3 deathtouch creature can assign 1 damage to each 0/4 wall killing them both

legendofa on Rules Change to Combat

Interesting change. I'm going to make the easy prediction that I'm going to be tripped up by it at least once and lose a game.

Icbrgr Unless I'm missing something, deathtouch doesn't seem to change that much. If Deathtouchguy is attacking, it still needs to deal 1 or more damage to anything it wants to kill, and no damage to anything it wants to keep alive. If Deathtouchguy is blocking, it still needs to deal at least 1 damage to the attacker.

TypicalTimmy on Tappedout Set Symbol

Good afternoon,

I was thinking the other day about how sometimes in the card creation forum we add an extra layer of difficulty by requiring a specific rarity to our challenges such as an uncommon Planeswalker or a mythic rare that costs only 3 mana.

Normally we denote the rarity with it being next to the typeline, such as

  • Creature - Spirit (uncommon)

Well, what if we had a set symbol custom for Tappedout in black, silver, gold and red in the drop-down menu for other symbols?

I thought maybe we could have submissions entered and almost hold like a contest with votes being given in which one the site likes the most or something.

That, or we take the Tappedout logo and color it as black, silver, gold and red and use that one.

Anyway, just a thought.

seshiro_of_the_orochi, I did not deliberately choose to put so many legendary creatures in this deck; I simply found them to be what most appealed, to me, and, as for Phoenix Chick, that is a great cad, but I am hoping to keep all of the creatures in this deck multi-colored, so that they gain the maximum possible benefits from Boartusk Liege.

As for Dragonlair Spider, I would like to have a powerful creature with reach, to serve as a nice blocker to discourage my opponents from attacking me.

Came here from your forum post.

This deck has way too many legendaries, but I'll assume you want it that way. So why not add something to use the mana your Radha produces on attack?

Phoenix Chick would do good work here. It synergizes with Radha's attack trigger and also has haste for Samut. And it's quite the house when you target it with Al and Hal. It would overall be a great addition. So replace your two copies of Spidersilk Armor with it, and while you're at it, also take out either Dragonlair Spider or Runes of the Deus for Chicks 3 and 4. That way, you reduce your average MV by a ton and even increase synergy.
